What is New England Bess?

The 521 MWdc (400 MWac) first stage started generating clean, renewable electricity into NSW and Queensland in 2023. The construction for the second stage 416 MWdc (329 MWac) and the 200 MW/400 MWh (2-hour) battery storage is now underway. The New England BESS is being built through the support of the NSW Government’s Emerging Energy Program.

When will the New England Bess be built?

Stage 2 (320MW) and a 200MW/2 hour battery will start construction in 2024. The project is being delivered with the support of host landholders, First Nations and the Uralla community. The New England BESS is being built through the support of the NSW Government’s Emerging Energy Program.
