Founded in 1984, Enercon offers turbine models in the nominal power range from 2 MW to 6 MW. One of the largest wind farm projects currently under construction by the company is the 816-MW Horizonte wind farm located in the Atacama Desert in Chile. The project was originally contracted with Chilean utility Colbun SA back in 2019.

ENERCON began its road to economical / ecological success when graduate engineer Aloys Wobben founded the company in 1984. A small team of engineers developed the first E-15 / 16 wind turbine with a rated power of 55 kW. To start with, ENERCON systems still featured gearboxes.
